PROFESSIONAL BUILDING ENVELOPE SEALING

Aerobarrier seals air barrier leaks in commercial and residential building envelopes reducing time, materials, and overall construction / remodel project costs helping deliver a more energy efficient and comfortable space to live and grow.

What is Building Envelope Sealing?

Aerobarrier building envelope sealing is a patented process that uses safe and non-toxic aerosol sealant to seal your building envelope from the inside.

The Aerobarrier process seals leaks in the air barrier of your building improving the “tightness” of your structure. Here’s a quick 2min video overview.

Aerobarrier works by pressurizing the building envelope and then releasing the Aerobarrier sealant inside the structure. Controlled air pressure then forces the sealant to seek out and seal off leaks in your air barrier. Aerobarrier can be applied at various stages throughout the construction process.

Indoor Air Quality of Texas Aeroseal Technicians are experts at fixing leaky building envelopes. And if you don’t have enough clean air in your home, we can help with that too.

Why Seal Your Building Envelope?

Sealing gaps, holes, and cracks in your air barrier are required to prevent unwanted bad air from penetrating and good air from escaping a living or work space. With Aerobarrier, builders and construction companies have a better solution for:

  • Improving the “tightness” of a structure
  • Better quality control
  • Controlling labor costs
  • Reducing building material costs
  • Passing local and state building code

Aerobarrier envelope sealing services are also ideal for builders:

  • Mitigating sub-contractor workmanship
  • Missing ACH50 blower door performance scores
  • Wanting to offer more energy efficient and better living space benefits to buyers
  • Wanting a competitive advantage where efficiency and air quality are top buyer concerns

Aerobarrier gives you a cost-effective means to seal unwanted air barrier leaks.

A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO FOAM INSULATION

foam insulation

Today, a common approach to creating an air barrier in new construction and remodel projects is to spray foam insulation between the interior and exterior walls of a home.

When is comes to creating a homes thermal layer, spray foam insulation is less efficient and more expensive than installing traditional fiberglass insulation.

Building with fiberglass insulation and envelope sealing gives you a better thermal AND air barrier.

BETTER FOR HOMEOWNERS

Aerobarrier is also about more than just about saving money on building costs. With Aerobarrier homeowners not only get an upgrade that will pay for itself over time with lower energy costs, they’re also purchasing a home that delivers better indoor air quality, supports better health, and is a more comfortable place to live and grow.

Aerobarrier is truly and upgrade homeowners can enjoy while they’re living in their home and when they go to resell because a tighter air barrier means:

  • Greater control over the air that enters your living space
  • More comfort and protection from drafts, unwanted humidity, and outside odors
  • Better indoor air quality with fewer unwanted particulate and contaminants entering your living space including: insulation, fiberglass, allergens, pulverized cockroach antennae, decaying bug and animal remnants inside your walls and attic
  • Improved efficiency up to 25% of your heating and cooling system, saving money over time
  • Lower levels of sound transfer reducing outside noises disturbance
  • Reduced risk of interior mold growth with less humidity inside your walls
air barrier sealing benefits

Aerobarrier envelope sealing provides benefits to builders/remodelers by:

  • Giving you greater control over choosing the building tightnesses level from just passing code to passive-house levels of tightness
  • Sealing cracks and leaks otherwise undetectable and unreachable by hand preventing bad air from penetrating your building envelope
  • Reducing labor costs spent sealing up an enclosure
  • Giving you better insulation options for thermal layer control
  • Automating the process of sealing your air barrier
  • Reduces unwanted air flow/humidity that can shorten the life of your product
  • Increasing efficiency with less infiltration – up to 20% decrease in the energy loads on a building
  • Helping grow your business by delivering a product many consumers desire

These are just some of the benefits of sealing your building with Aerobarrier, but perhaps you still have questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW SAFE IS AEROBARRIER SEALANT?

Aerobarrier is “Greenguard Gold Certified” and meets stringent low chemical emissions standards, used in schools and hospitals.

Also, Aerobarrier sealant does not contain any International living future institute (IFLI) “red listed” ingredients that either harm the environment/ecosystem and/or workers that produce the sealant.

Aerobarrier yields very low VOCs when applied and no VOC off-gassing once it sets up, in about 30 minutes.

WHEN IS THE BESTS TIME TO APPLY AEROBARRIER?

The ideal time to apply Aerobarrier is just after the air barrier is installed, including windows, drywall, along with the majority of the exterior plumbing, electrical and ventilation penetrations have been made.

However, Aerobarrier can also be applied any time between rough-in and prior to occupancy.

CAN AEROBARRIER BE APPLIED TO EXISTING CONSTRUCTION?

Aerobarrier can be applied to existing construction, and we have completed applications with excellent results. If you would like to apply Aerobarrier to an existing building, we recommend applying Aerobarrier between a move out/move in because of the extensive prep work that must be done on a finished home. The most cost effective way to seal a building is between occupancy and during a remodel/new-construction project.

HOW LARGE OF A LEAK CAN AEROBARRIER SEAL?

AeroBarrier seals holes as large as ½”, and as tiny as a human hair. Aerosol sealing is extremely effective at sealing narrow gaps and extremely small holes that are typically not cost-effective or are missed during manual sealing.

HOW MUCH IS MY BUILDING'S AIR BARRIER LEAKING?

An ACH50 test is conducted prior to applying Aerobarrier to determine a building’s “tightness” or leakage. New construction code allows you to have 5 ACH50 meaning the volume of inside air can change with the outside air 5 times per hour at a test pressure of 50 pascals. Considering the air volume of an average house this can be quite a lot of leakage even though it is meeting the code minimum.

CAN A HOME OR BUILDING BE TOO TIGHT?

No. When a home is constructed correctly it does not need to breath, but people do! The mechanical ventilation system does the work of bringing in outside air and diluting CO2 and VOCs in the home.

It is much better to bring in outside air on your own terms: when, how much, and filtered, as opposed to allowing air to freeflow through wall cavities filled with fiberglass insulation, dust, bug, and insect remnants.

HOW MUCH DOES AEROBARRIER COSTS?

A pre-application inspection is required to provide a cost estimate for your project. Cost for applying Aerobarrier to your building or remodeling project is based on several factors including construction phase and targeted air tightness levels.

HOW LONG DOES AEROBARRIER SEALANT LAST?

Third-party lab testing reveals AeroBarrier withstands a simulated 50-year durability test, with little or no seal degradation.

DOES AEROBARRIER COME WITH A WARRANTY?

Yes. Aerobarrier is warrantied for 10 years from the date of application.

An Expanding Focus on Building Tightness

All buildings have leakage; and often those leaks are inaccessible, either in-between floors or in tight spaces. Building a home means dedicating additional labor, time, and materials to manually seal off gaps and cracks that affect the air-tightness of a structure.

Even worse, the building fails inspection leading to project delays and cost overruns because of your air barrier isn’t meeting performance requirements.
